Hi, I'm Mahima.
I write and perform music under the name *Bawari Basanti*.
I grew up learning Hindustani classical music from my grandmother before going on to study it more formally, but the music I make today lives somewhere between tradition and the world I inhabit now. It borrows from folk music, poetry, spoken word, rap, storytelling, and contemporary production; to find a language that feels honest to the times we're living in.
Most of my songs begin with observation and a sense of exploring a new concept. I feel the answers come to me during the process of creation.
A conversation overheard. A line in a book. A woman I've never met. A memory that refuses to leave. A question I can't stop thinking about.
Writing has always been my way of making sense of the world.
For a long time, my songs were deeply personal. They explored love, heartbreak, friendship, identity, and all the quiet, complicated parts of being human. Those songs still exist, and they always will. They belong to Mahima.
But over the years, Bawari Basanti has grown into something bigger than a stage name.
She has become an enquiry.
